STORY

Break the ice with a testimony..

  • Someone shares their salvation story

  • Or someone shares a celebration of God’s goodness in the past week

VISION FOR THIS DISCUSSION

God’s created beings begin to turn away from Him and start their own rebellion by living apart from Him and His goodness. They decide what is good in their own eyes instead and begin building their own new perverted race, corrupted rules, and broken kingdom.

It gets to the point where God is sorry for ever creating them. His heart is broken. In His justice, He sends a great flood to wipe out His evil-corrupted creation. But in His mercy, He spares one man, Noah, and His family. He counts Noah as righteous due to Noah’s faith. God tells Noah to build an ark for his family and pairs of animals in order to survive the flood. Noah does what God says and lives.

Mankind seems to have a fresh start. But it doesn’t take long until Noah and his family turn away from God and turn right back to sin. The curse of sin only continues to spiral, along with man’s need for salvation from it.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PASSAGE

  1. Read Genesis 6:5–22, 7:6–10, 7:24–8:5 to provide an overview for this study.

Spend time talking about the reasons for the flood.

-Do you think God was patient or impatient with mankind before the flood?

-What are your thoughts about God’s patience today?

  2. When you consider that there were only eight survivors of the Flood, why do you think no one heeded Noah’s warning message over a span of 120 years? Why do you think so many people today choose to disregard God’s grace and mercy?

  3. Does it seem to you that the culture in Noah’s day is not very different from our culture today? In what ways are people living a “business as usual” life with no thought of eternity? How should we respond to this?

  4. How do we experience God’s grace and mercy today? How are you personally experiencing God’s grace and mercy in your own life? How should we respond to this?

PRAYER

PRAY ‘TACOS’ after collecting prayer requests

Thanksgiving - “Father, thank you…”

Adoration - “Father, you are…”

Confession - “Father, I confess…”

Others - “Father, I pray for…”

Self - “Father, please help me…”

*If size or group dynamics seem to hinder prayer, consider dividing into groups of men/women or groups of 3-4 to reduce barriers to praying out loud
