  • Ask if anyone would like to open up in prayer and ask God to bless your time together

STORY

Break the ice with a testimony..

  • Someone shares their salvation story

  • Or someone shares a celebration of God’s goodness in the past week

VISION FOR THIS DISCUSSION

Eve ends a conversation she should have never had. The serpent has twisted God’s words with his own “translation.” He has mixed in blatant lies to paint God as anything other than the good and loving God that He is. And the most tragic part of it all, is that she’s convinced the serpent is right and God is wrong.

She will now change the trajectory for all of humanity as she and Adam both eat of the forbidden fruit. And as soon as they eat, everything changes—how they see the world, how they see each other, and worst of all, how they see God.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PASSAGE

  1. Have someone in your group read Genesis 3:6-13 aloud. What are some initial observations that caught your attention in these verses?

  2. What do you think was so enticing about wisdom for Eve to gain by eating the fruit? What is true wisdom? (use specific Bible verses to support your answers)

  3. What observations can you make about how Adam and Eve responded to committing sin? How did that affect their relationship with God?

  4. How does God respond to their sin? How does God view Adam and Eve after their sin?

    QUESTIONS FOR APPLICATION

  1. Head—Why do you think Adam and Eve felt shame at their nakedness? How were there eyes opened now?

  2. Heart—After eating from the forbidden fruit, Adam and Eve cover themselves up with fig leaves. Why do we have the urge to “cover ourselves up” when we sin? What does that look like for us?

  3. Hands—What sin are you currently trying to cover up? Are you blaming others for your sin? Are you consistently and quickly confessing your sin to God? What specific Gospel truths do you need to cover yourself up with instead?

PRAYER

PRAY ‘TACOS’ after collecting prayer requests

Thanksgiving - “Father, thank you…”

Adoration - “Father, you are…”

Confession - “Father, I confess…”

Others - “Father, I pray for…”

Self - “Father, please help me…”

*If size or group dynamics seem to hinder prayer, consider dividing into groups of men/women or groups of 3-4 to reduce barriers to praying out loud

DON’T FORGET

  • Re-confirm schedule

  • Urgent needs for serving in the church

    • We need Citylight Kids volunteers! Email Trish at trish@citylightbennington.church to volunteer today!

  • “See you Sunday! Here’s where we’ll be sitting…”
